Ancient Greek AR Tetradrachm - Athena and Owl in 14K - Item #9127
Athens was always known for the little owls on the coinage, this is a beautiful specimen of a coin from that age. Next to the owl are the letters ΑθE, the first three letters of Athens. On the reverse is the head of the goddess Athena.
Athena is the Greek goddess of so many things: wisdom, war, courage, inspiration, the arts, crafts, and skill.
This was also among the first coins to have the figures upon both obverse and reverse. Beautifully set in a 14K gold, handcrafted bezel frame with granulation detail and fancy granulated bail. The beautiful frame will protect the coin for many lifetimes ahead. A true treasure.
