A beautiful authentic silver shipwreck La Capitana 8 reales coin in a 14K gold flat cast border and shackle bail. The coin with mounting is a bit larger than a U.S. silver dollar. Each mounting is handcrafted in the USA to protect the coin's historical value and fit precisely and securely.

The mid-17th century flagship of the Armada del Mar del Sur (South Sea Armada) sailing form Peru to Panama was Jesus Maria de la Limpia Concepion, affectionately referred to as “La Capitana”. The largest galleon yet built for King Philip IV, this huge ship was lost October 26, 1654 after a navigational error caused her to strike a submerged reef near Chanduy, Ecuador. La Capitana carried a registered cargo of 3 million pesos represented by 2,212 silver bars and 216 chests of silver coins. Spanish salvage efforts shortly after the sinking produced millions of coins, many of which were unregistered.  This special silver coin from the legendary mint and mountain of silver at Potosi is an authentic treasure coin recovered in 1996-1997 from the remains of the 1654 Capitana shipwreck.
